Here are some photos of our Cecil County, MD veterinary clinic:

In 1971, Dr. Robert Magdeburger, DVM, established Elk Neck Veterinary Clinic on Turkey Point Road in North East, Maryland. "Doc Mag" operated his practice at the same location for 26 years, assisted by Pat Burton and seeing appointments on a walk-in basis, or making house calls. He kept patient records on five by seven inch index cards that were stored in a four-drawer filing box. In 1997, Doc Mag retired and sold the practice to Dr. Kathleen Lackey, DVM.

Dr. Lackey began her practice at Elk Neck Vet Clinic with a staff of three (including Pat), and her infant daughter, Rachel. Clients were now seen by appointment only, and scheduled in a spiral bound daily appointments book; patient files were still kept on the index cards. There was one phone line and many quiet afternoons. After six months, Dr. Lackey added a computer to the clinic setup, to help process client and patient information.

The practice has grown rapidly since that time. Now, eleven staff members assist Dr. Lackey with daily operations, providing top of the line client and patient care. Index cards have given way to file folders, one phone line has turned into four, and the single computer has expanded to six. The paper appointment book is long gone, and there are no more quiet afternoons. Rachel is often here in the clinic, along with her sister Rebecca, doing schoolwork, playing or hanging out with their mom, and Dr. Lackey's husband, John Gonzalez, often stops by. There's always something happening at the clinic now!
